We are seeking a CNC and Lathe Programmer/Machinist to join our growing company here in Winchester, Virginia.

We are seeking a skilled CNC and Lathe Programmer/Machinist who excels in precision manufacturing and possesses a strong commitment to safety, quality control, and continuous improvement. Your expertise will be instrumental in producing high-quality precision parts and components while maintaining our standards of excellence. As a Machinist, you will operate a variety of machine tools including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC equipment to fabricate, modify, and repair mechanical components according to exact specifications. Your attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and technical skills will enable you to contribute to our manufacturing operations while maintaining the highest standards of precision and safety.

Responsibilities

1. Precision Manufacturing Operations:

  • Set up, adjust, and operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, shapers, grinders, and CNC equipment to perform precision machining operations
  • Machine parts to specifications using appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and measuring instruments
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
  • Monitor feed and speed of machines during machining processes to ensure optimal performance

2. Quality Control and Inspection:

  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments
  • Maintain specified tolerances throughout the manufacturing process
  • Perform in-process inspections to prevent defective parts from progressing through production
  • Document quality control data and maintain accurate production records

3. Setup and Programming:

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD programs
  • Program and operate CNC machines for complex part production (Level 2 and above)
  • Write, edit, and troubleshoot G-code and M-code programs for CNC operations
  • Utilize CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software for program generation
  • Set up multiple operations while maintaining specified tolerances

4. Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety work practices and safety rules consistently
  • Utilize required personal protective equipment including safety glasses, face protection, gloves, and ear plugs
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Report any safety concerns or equipment malfunctions immediately

5. Continuous Improvement and Skills Development:

  • Apply constructive feedback to improve work performance and quality
  • Participate in training programs to advance technical skills
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Progress through skill levels from Machinist 1 to advanced levels based on competency demonstration

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required; 2 years of technical education preferred
  • Previous machine operating experience and demonstrated mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Progression through machinist levels based on demonstrated competencies and experience

Technical Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of machines, tools, designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of mathematics including arithmetic, algebra, and geometry applications
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
  • Understanding of production processes, quality control, and manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge of raw materials, metal properties, and machining procedures
  • Proficiency in CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code
  • Familiarity with CAM software for program generation and optimization
  • Understanding of CNC control systems and machine operation interfaces

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 70% of time)
  • Visual acuity for precision measurement and inspection (80% of time)
  • Ability to lift and move machines and parts as required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. 
  • Hand/eye coordination for precise operations
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with occasional high noise and temperature variations
  • Maintain and adhere to safety guidelines including wearing appropriate PPE (boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.)

Job Type and Pay

Full-time.  This is an hourly position and pay is based upon training, skills, and experience.

Schedule

The schedule is five days a week Dayshift Monday - Friday.  Overtime and weekends will be needed based on production needs.  This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.
